In the summer 2000, in the group of Italian volunteers, who spent two weeks in Nis and Southeastern Serbia on the Psychosocial Support Project funded by UNHCR, in the camp organised by “Lunaria”, there was Ermanno Ciotti. Among other centres, he visited the collective centre for the accommodation of refugees and IDPs “Velika Kopasnica” near Leskovac, where ICS organised workshops for children and the elderly. Having seen the unfavourable living conditions in the centre, as well as the impact of Mediateca Selova Project in a collective centre near Kursumlija, Ermanno decided to apply with a similar project with his municipality. The project was approved, and its implementation started. During the implementation, the company which owned the centre was privatised, so the beneficiaries had to move out. Most of the children were moved to the collective centre “Motel Atina” near Leskovac, so it was decided to continue with the implementation there.

Thank to Ermanno and Ascoli Piceno Municipality, the children and youth now have a well-equipped space for socialising, studying, and organised activities. The project provided for a TV, a video, a hi-fi, a large number of books, toys, video tapes, furniture, etc. Mediateca has also been the place of the Final Competition in the knowledge from the addiction prevention workshop, as well as concerts of our bands, parties, etc…
